__Nicholas Delaney - Hero or Villain?

1798 pikeman, Wexford, from A Rebel Hand: Nicholas Delaney of 1798
1798 pikeman, Wexford
_
Nicholas was sentenced to death for murdering two Government supporters during the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

After months in a stinking gaol he was reprieved and transported to New South Wales.

As a convict labourer, he built some of Australia's oldest roads.

Later he married and became a farmer and innkeeper and a pioneer settler west of the daunting Blue Mountains.
